Perspective is Everything

May 1, 2012

PerspectiveRecently I sat looking out the window and I saw a bird. What caught me by surprise was that he was perched on a very large power line. It was so much larger than his feet that I saw he struggled to adequately hold on to the line. It was incredible how he was unwavering and steadfast in his mission. I also noticed the wind was blowing incredibly hard. This little bird was constantly being bombarded by the wind yet he would just calmly readjust and stare down towards the ground. He was  epically focused on his mission. After several minutes of adjusting being knocked of the wire I saw him fly down with precision and attacked whatever he’d been watching for. Whatever he had been waiting for he’d successfully caught. It was very cool to watch.

I wondered how in the midst of all the wind and uncomfortable circumstance how he seemed unfazed, unaffected, and totally fearless. Before I could finish my thought I felt the Lord stir my spirit and in that moment I heard Him whisper, “The Bird is unafraid because he knows what he was created for…”

I spent the next 10 minutes writing down the following points that left me in tears. My prayer is that this will encourage you the way in encouraged me.

At no point in his mission did he forget he could fly and that he was more than capable of sustaining the situation with grace and strength. Unfortunately in our storms we forget that we are more than conquerors and we are called to see and fly above the storm. When the wind blows we are to use our resources to readjust and reposition ourselves — ( Pray, read the word, and surround yourselves with life giving people )

He never lost perspective of why he was there. He understood the circumstance was going to reap fruit if he just waited and suffered well. There are so many times we loose sight of the prize and allow the waves to overtake us, but instead we should … fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

The bird knew he was capable of withstanding, he understood the bigger plan of why he needed to be that high and finally he knew it wasn’t going to last forever. If you find yourself struggling, know that it is only temporal. There is a lesson for you to learn or a moment God wants you to embrace and encounter.

Remember the higher you go and the greater the risk the greater your perspective needs to be. It’s okay that it is uncomfortable — Comfort doesn’t produce fruit, it produces complacency.

Stay focused, perspective is EVERYTHING!
